Wellness

In 2004 Congress passed the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. This Act required each school district that participates in the National School Lunch Program to adopt a local wellness policy addressing healthy eating and physical activity. The Cape Girardeau Public School Board of Education adopted a wellness policy in 2017. The policy, developed by a committee, relates to the health and well being of the children and staff of the district. The primary objective of the policy is to promote student and staff health and reduce childhood obesity.

The Wellness Committee meets each quarter in the BoardRoom at the Central Administration Office. The committee is comprised of district employees, parents of the district children, and health & wellness professionals in the community.

Any person interested in being on the committee can contact the policy facilitator Kayla Johnson at 573-335-1867 or email johnsonk1@capetigers.com
